Christen Dusselier, CFP
Christen began her career with Mitchell Capital in February 2001. She has an extensive, diverse background, as she has served clients in a variety of roles, including operations, fixed income analysis and more. Today, she is a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager. In her role as Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, Christen works to build strong relationships with her clients and completes extensive economic research and analysis. She works with Ken and Phil on daily basis and leads our municipal research and strategy.
Christen earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, with a concentration in Finance. She earned the prestigious Certified Financial Planner designation in 2017.
She comes from a large family — Christen is one of 11 children. She and her husband have one daughter and one son. They volunteer regularly at Crossroads Hospice. Christen is also an avid runner, finishing the Chicago Marathon several years ago.
Renee joined Mitchell Capital in July 2017. His responsibilities including balancing portfolios, recording trades, managing transfers and additional duties in the operations department.
He has a degree in Economics and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. He is fluent in Spanish and is an avid weightlifter.
Ken Green, CFA
President & Portfolio Manager
Ken is an experienced investment professional and leader of the firm. He joined Mitchell Capital in February 1990. Today, he works with U.S. Treasury securities, Federal Agency securities, state and local tax-exempt securities and corporate bonds. He works with Christen and Phil on our proprietary credit analysis system and leads the fixed income monthly investment committee.
After Ken earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Missouri, he began his career in finance at Central Bank in Jefferson City, Missouri. He met Fred Mitchell, the founder of Mitchell Capital Management, who was seeking someone with bond expertise and a passion for investments and clients.
He is a member of the CFA Institute, the Economic Club of KC, KC CFA Society, Leawood Lions Club and Boy Scout Troop 10, which is the third largest troop in the nation.
Ken and his wife have one daughter and one son. He enjoys playing tennis and spending time on the family ranch in Lebanon, Missouri.
Vice President & Portfolio Manager
Rich joined the Mitchell Capital team in 1994 and serves clients with a proactive approach to analyzing equities and portfolios as they know each stock like the back of their hand via our proprietary screening model. In conjunction with this stock analysis, Rich also enjoys his client relationships. Rich began his investment career in 1980 at First National Bank of Kansas City.
Originally from Salina, Kansas, and raised in Topeka, Rich earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA degrees from the University of Kansas and then relocated to Kansas City. Rich is a member of the CFA Institute and the KC CFA Society as well as serving on the board of directors for Harvesters and Baptist-Trinity Luther Legacy Foundation.
He and his wife have two grown children, as well as three dogs, a cat and a horse. Rich played basketball and golf in high school and still enjoys playing today.
Phil Kernen, CFA
Phil brings a diverse background to our fixed income team with his previous professional experiences in energy, debt and corporate reporting. He joined Mitchell Capital in October 2005. He particularly enjoys visiting with clients, and his responsibilities include trading, security analysis and marketing.
Phil earned his degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He began his financial career with a role in Omaha in corporate reporting for a general contractor, and went on to secure more than $3 billion in worldwide debt funding for a Kansas City, Missouri, based energy company, and managing the liquidity and market risk of a $35 billion fixed income portfolio of a Lenexa, Kansas based wholesale corporate credit union.
Phil is a member of the CFA Institute and the KC CFA Society. He volunteers at KC Literacy.
He likes reading, as well as spending time outdoors, especially hiking and biking. Phil and his wife have three children — one pair of twins (a boy and a girl) and another daughter.
Rhiannon joined Mitchell Capital in March 2018. Her responsibilities including balancing portfolios, recording trades, managing transfers and additional duties in the operations department.
She has a degree in Mathematics and Statistics with a minor in Economics from UMKC graduating in December 2017. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was president of the UMKC Math Club. She grew up in Jefferson City, MO., and moved to Kansas City in 2010.
Her hobbies include being outdoors, cooking, reading, spending time with her black lab and her family.
Brandon Reed, CFA
Brandon partners with Jonn and Rich to lead our equity strategies research and construction. In his role, he works with the equity team uncover new investing opportunities and leading our proprietary screening model for securities.
Brandon earned his Finance degree from Saint Louis University in December 2013. He is a CFA charter holder, successfully completing each exam on his first attempt. Prior to joining Mitchell Capital, Brandon worked as an investment analyst/trader., where he was responsible for both fixed income and mutual fund research and trading as well as assisting with client reporting.
Brandon and his wife love to see movies, watch sports (especially baseball and football), play golf, and travel, already visiting 17 countries. They have a set of twins, boy and girl, born in 2017
Jenn began at Mitchell Capital in September 2014. Her responsibilities include balancing portfolios, recording trades, managing transfers and additional tasks as Operations Specialist.
Jenn is currently earning her liberal arts degree at Wichita State University. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their daughter and their son. Jenn’s husband served in the military.
Director of Operations
In her role as Director of Operations, her responsibilities include equity trading and oversight. Trish joined Mitchell Capital in December 2003. Trish brings more than 30 years of experience in portfolio accounting, trading and client service.
She earned her Associate’s Degree in Finance from Kansas City, KS, Community College. Trish and her husband have three children and three grandchildren. An avid bowler, Trish participates in three leagues and competes across the country.
Chief Compliance Officer
As Chief Compliance Officer, her responsibilities include compliance and portfolio administration with no two days being the same. She works directly with our operations and investment management teams to keep the “behind the scenes” business running smoothly. She joined the firm in 1991.
Prior to Mitchell Capital, Barbara worked in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill, and then in international educational development, providing oversight and training in Indonesia and Honduras.
Barbara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics at Creighton University, and also earned her MBA at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Barbara and her husband have three children. Along with her family, she volunteers with her church, serves the homeless and enjoys traveling.
Jan partners with clients in many ways to ensure their needs are met with their investment portfolio. She spends her days in conversations serving individuals, families and nonprofit boards, and particularly enjoys applying her firm’s security analysis to these relationships. Jan joined with Mitchell Capital in 1998 after a successful career with George K Baum. In finance since 1981, her work includes stock brokerage, portfolio management, sales and investing; furthermore, she has been an active public speaker, teacher and facilitator for women’s investment clubs.
Jan earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Missouri
She and her husband have two children and one grandson. Together, Jan and her husband run The Red Shed, an antique business in the West Bottoms, and they share a special interest in Kansas City artifacts. She also enjoys traveling, particularly to Colorado. Jan has served on the Zoo Learning Fund Board, currently serves as treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Rose Brooks shelter and is a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri.
Jonn Wullschleger, CFA
Vice President & Portfolio Manager
Jonn joined Mitchell Capital in October 2000. As Vice President & Portfolio Manager, Jonn researches growth companies, conducts economic analysis, manages equity portfolios and assets and visits with clients. He leads our weekly equity investment committee with a collaborative team approach with Rich and Brandon.
Jonn is Midwesterner at heart as his career highlights include a role in a bank trust investment department and with a mutual fund management company. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Finance, as well as his MBA, from Rockhurst University. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the KC CFA Society.
Jonn particularly enjoys travel and likes researching new destinations in his spare time. He has been on every continent.
